In recent years, the rise of hardcore punk fronted by women has made great waves of influence not limited to any particular place. This worldwide movement is progressing even now like a powerful whirlpool, something that can be felt by any passionate hardcore punk fan.

New York's KRIMEWATCH, who's tour through Japan is still fresh in our memory, is an indispensable to how we view this movement.

But a band indispensable to KRIMEWATCH is FIREWALKER, the band who organized KRIMEWATCH's 1st show. FIREWALKER, a 4-piece girls band* based in Boston, pulls this movement from the forefront.

Their band name is derived from fellow Boston living legend SLAPSHOT's 1990 EP FIREWALKER. While classic 80's USHC grounds their foundation, 80's NYHC bands like SHEER TERROR, SICK OF IT ALL, AGNOSTIC FRONT, MADBALL etc. also exert comparable influence. Additionally, more recent USHC hands such as TRAPPED UNDER ICE, TURNSTILE, FURY etc. have also had a substantial impact on their identity and sound. This hybrid blend of both classic and fresh music shines through with a unique quality, perhaps a quality only found in this age.

The band's exquisite appearance that combines both coolness and indifference further shape their sense of originality. From her graceful looks, who could imagine the thick, evil-conjuring roar of vocalist Sophie. Honestly, who wouldn't get apeshit excited over a band like FIREWALKER!

Their two self-released demos and limited edition cassettes of EP ALIVE (2018) sold out immediately fueled by rumors of their popularity. A total of 18 songs spanning three works, their 1st album FIREWALKER (2017) released by Pop Wig, EP Alive (2018), and their latest work ROLL CALL (2019), will be released by BREAK THE RECORDS.

FIREWALKER's shows are up on YouTube and over the web. Even in their early years, many women in their audience can be seen thrashing their arms and moshing ferociously, oblivious to the dudes around them. And as time goes by, more will surely join them.

数年前から現在でも女性をフロントとするハードコアパンクバンドの台頭は近年非常に強いインパクトを放っている、それはどこかの場所に限った事ではなく、世界的なムーブメントとして今も現在進行形で大きな渦を為しているように感じられるのは熱心なハードコアパンクファンであれば誰もが感じているはず。
そうなった経緯として先日の来日公演も記憶に新しいニューヨークのKRIMEWATCHの存在は必要不可欠である。
そんなKRIMEWATCHと共に絶対に欠かす事が出来ない存在であり、そのKRIMEWATCHの1st SHOWをオーガナイズしたのがこのムーブメントを最先端で牽引し続けているUSボストンを拠点とする4人組ガールズハードコアバンド、FIREWALKERである。
彼女達の地元ボストンを代表するLIVING LEGEND、SLAPSHOTの90年作EPタイトルよりその名を拝借している事からもわかる通りクラシックな80s USHCからの影響を根底に置きつつ、SHEER TERROR/SICK OF IT ALL/AGNOSTIC FRONT/MADBALL等といった80s NYHCからの影響も強い、その上でTRAPPED UNDER ICE、TURNSTILE、FURY等といった生で体感してきた現行USHCからの影響もしっかり血肉としつつ、それらを現代ならではな感覚でブレンドミックスされた楽曲はクラシックでいながら凄まじくフレッシュな質感を持つハイブリッドな輝きを放っている。
そしてVo.Sophieのその端麗な容姿からは全く想像の出来ないドスの効きまくったEVILなデスボイスによる強烈な咆哮、そのクールさと無邪気さを兼ね備えた絶妙な佇まい、存在感は彼女達を更にオリジナルな存在へと際立たせていると思う。こんなバンド出て来たらそりゃ〜ブチ上がらざるを得ない訳です！
自主リリースされた二本のデモは噂が噂を呼び即完売、その後Pop Wigよりリリースされた1st full album『FIREWALKER』(2017)に、限定生産のカセットでリリースされるもこちらも即完売となったEP『ALIVE』(2018)、そしてつい先日リリースされたばかりの最新作『ROLL CALL』(2019)の3作品を収録した全18曲、リリースはBREAK THE RECORDより。
YouTubeやWEB上の媒体を通して確認出来る彼女達のライブ、そのフロアでは活動初期から屈強な男達に混じり腕をぶん回し大股のストンプをかましながら縦横無尽に駆け巡る女性達の姿が多く確認出来る。その人数は月日を追う毎に今もなお増していくばかりである。
